INGREDIENTS 

Serves 6

1 cup coarse bulgur wheat

1 cup small green lentils, rinsed and picked

2 to 3 tsp Lebanese Seven Spice blend

1 Tbs butter

¼ cup olive oil

2 large onions, sliced evenly

METHOD

In a small saucepan, bring 1 ¼ cups of water or chicken broth to a boil. Add the butter, bulgur, 1 tsp Lebanese Seven Spice and some salt to the boiling water. Lower to a simmer and cover.  Cook until bulgur is cooked through. Fluff with a fork.

Cook lentils as per instructions on package. When cooking add salt and 1 tsp Lebanese Seven Spice to cooking water.

In a large skillet, add olive oil and heat. Add the sliced onion and cook until caramelized.  Remove from heat. Add the cooked bulgur wheat and cooked lentils to the skillet and mix together. Taste and if needed sprinkle with more of the spice blend. Alternatively, you can mix the bulgur and lentils and then top with the caramelized onions.
